As Delawareans, we are proud of our state’s long-running history with Dover AFB, home of the 436th Airlift Wing. In 1947, President Truman signed the National Security Act which established the Department of Defense, and along with it, the creation of the US Air Force as an independent service. The official birthday of the US Air Force is 18 September 1947. Happy Birthday to the USAF!
